24-year-old rape convict dies by suicide in Madhya Pradesh

A 24-year-old man, who was convicted of raping a minor, allegedly died by suicide soon after the verdict, in Madhya Pradesh’s Hoshangabad district, police said on Saturday

17 साल की लड़की की किडनैपिंग और रेप के आरोपी ने 20 साल की सजा सुनने के बाद जहर खाकर जान दे दी। शुक्रवार को पुलिस कस्टडी में उसे जेल ले जाया जा रहा था। जेल में दाखिल होने से पहले उसने जहर खा लिया। इलाज के दौरान प्राइवेट अस्पताल में उसकी मौत हो गई।

ग्राम रायपुर निवासी राजा कहार (24) पुत्र रमेश कहार ने 4 जुलाई 2020 को मोहल्ले की 17 साल की नाबालिग का अपहरण कर दुष्कर्म किया था। राजा कहार जमानत पर था। शुक्रवार को केस की उसकी आखिरी पेशी थी। विशेष न्यायालय में विशेष न्यायाधीश आरती ए शुक्ला ने दोपहर 2.45 बजे 20 साल की सजा सुनाई।

बताया जा रहा है कि पुलिस बल करीब 3 बजे उसे कोर्ट से जेल ले जा रहा था। जेल के मुख्य गेट के पास अचानक उसकी तबीयत बिगड़ गई। पुलिसकर्मी उसे जिला अस्पताल लेकर पहुंचे। यहां से उसे निजी अस्पताल ले गए। देर शाम 7.30 बजे से 8 बजे के बीच इलाज के दौरान राजा ने दम तोड़ दिया।

परिजन का सवाल, बेटे के पास कैसे आया जहर?

मामले में राजा के मामा रामप्रसाद कहार का कहना है कि हम बेटे को कोर्ट से पुलिस कस्टडी में सुरक्षित छोड़कर गए। आधे से पौन घंटे बाद फोन आता है कि आपका बेटा सीरियस है। आप जिला अस्पताल आ जाओ। अस्पताल में बताया कि उसने जहर खा लिया। हमें आशंका है कि साजिश के तहत उसके साथ यह घटनाक्रम हुआ है।

“It is a serious security lapse. Police informed us at around 4.30 pm about the incident and when we asked how did he get the poison, the personnel had no idea. A rape culprit, who was under the security of at least six police personnel, consumed poison in the court or in the police van, and the police personnel didn’t see. How is it possible?” he asked.

The convict’s advocate, Lakhan Singh Bhavedi, too, raised similar questions. “This might not be the first incident of suicide after judgment, but the biggest question is what did he consume, how and when? How can the police be so clueless about it?”

Superintendent of police (Hoshangabad), Gurukaran Singh, said, “It is a matter of investigation from where the culprit found the poison and how did he consume it. A judicial inquiry has also been ordered in the matter.”
